Faye Frye

Although not a native of the county, Faye H Frye calls Rockingham County home. Aftergraduating from East Surry High in Pilot Mountain, Faye continued her education at Appalachian State University. Graduation and a phone call led her to Stoneville to teach and coach at Stoneville High School. This became the beginning of 34 years in education as a teacher and principal.
A quest for more education led her to UNC-Greensboro to earn a Master of Health Education degree and a certification in Middle School Science. Faye was encouraged by Rockingham County School administrators to pursue school administration. She studied at NC A & T State University and UNC- Chapel Hill to complete the certification for administration and was placed in administration at Stoneville Elementary School. Year Round Education was quickly becoming a choice for parents and schools. In her first year as principal, she and two other elementary principals in Rockingham County incorporated the concept. Having a school with two different calendars presented quite a challenge.
Faye served on the North Carolina Year Round Board of Directors and helped promote the concept to other counties. While in the principal’s position Faye received a Milken National Educators award for her leadership in the field of technology and increasing student achievement . Faye served on Boards of Directors for Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce and Rockingham Community College Foundation. Education for all students has always been her passion leading her to endow the Jerry L Frye Scholarship, at Rockingham Community College, in memory of her late husband.
Soon after retirement from the principalship, Faye decided to begin a new career that would allow her to continue being involved in the community. She earned a Real Estate Broker license and owned Faye H Frye Realty, Inc based in Stoneville. Throughout those years, she was in a position to assist with the sale and purchase of homes and commercial properties.
Faye is a member of Stoneville First Baptist Church where she serves as a Deacon and is a choir member. She is the director of the Stoneville FBC Blessings Center that offers a monthly food pantry and clothes closet for those who are in need. When the pantry is open, church members volunteer to assist clients by counseling, praying, and delivering the food boxes to the cars. The pantry also serves those in need at any time. The pantry offers extra food for Thanksgiving and at Christmas children receive gifts.
Faye also is a member and past President of Stoneville Rotary Club. The Rotary motto, Service Above Self, has served Faye well during her volunteer life in Rockingham County.
