Roger Redd

SCOC Board Member

Roger Redd was reared in Stuart, Va. surrounded by many family members which cultivated his love for family, extended family and community. He is married to Rev. Nancy Smith Redd and they have three children, five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Roger believes in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” He received his formal education at Stuart High School. Upon graduation he went to work for United Elastic where he worked for five years. In 1974 he was employed by Duke Energy Stream Station at Belews Creek, NC where he retired with 41 years of service. While at Duke he served as a Utility Operator, Equipment Operator, Control Operator, Supervisor of Operations and Superintendent of Material Handling and Flue Gas Desulfurization System.

In these positions he facilitated the following classes: Your Role for Excellence, Managing for Excellence and Lock-Out Tag-Out (tagging out all types of energy for safe working conditions) and Commissioning the Flue Gas Desulfurization System. He traveled to Kentucky, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and South Carolina for Commissioning Training. Many sat in wonderment on how he managed to be promoted to these positions without a college degree.

He has applied the scripture,“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Roger believes and implemented the following concept in his various positions, “Working together on one accord produces great results.”

Roger was recognized by the governor of North Carolina for providing numerous volunteer hours to the Rockingham County School System. He also volunteered for Big Brothers, Meals on Wheels, and Hospice of Rockingham County.
